Dear PBParty,
I’m seeking representation for my picture book, An UnBEARable Christmas. This story is a kid-friendly read-aloud, that children and adults will enjoy for its humour and twist ending.
Our protagonist does not enjoy the holiday season and looks forward to the solace that hibernation provides him every year. From the carolling caribou to the squirrels in silly sweaters, Bear has no time for Christmas. But when intriguing gifts are wrongly delivered to his door, he struggles to fight temptation. A shake, a squeeze and an accidental rip soon ensure that Bear is going to get less sleep than he hoped, especially when he realizes he has to right his wrong.
My love of crafting children’s stories stems from my career as an elementary school teacher in the U.K and Canada. I am a member of SCBWI and the 12 x 12 Picture Book Writing Challenge. I have a diploma in Creative Writing and successfully completed a picture book writing course at the University of Toronto. I live in Canada with my wife and some very temperamental orchids.
I am submitting this manuscript to other agents simultaneously and thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Excerpt:
Nothing made Bear feel more grizzly than Christmas.
His eyes rolled at the squirrels in silly sweaters.
The carolling caribou made his ears hurt.
Even the gingerbread moose bothered his nose.
“Ugh!” grunted Bear, “Thank goodness for hibernation.”
“Pyjamas – check”
“Eye mask – check!”
“Teddy bear – check!”
Bear climbed into bed.
“Wake me up in April, when all this nonsense is over.”
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
