Esteemed and Generous Judges,
I am grateful for your eyes on a manuscript I hope you’ll find engaging, marketable, and fun to read aloud!
In this 527-word picture book, Rooster wakes with a stuffed up beak! It’s red and sore and sprung a leak! On top of that, his morning call just isn’t coming out quite right: COCK-A-DOO … ah-CHOO! Luckily, a little chick alerts the barnyard that something’s wrong with Wake-Up Bird, and the animals rally to help. Cow tries to fill in for Rooster’s job. Granny Cluckers mixes up a home remedy. Pig is in a panic. Ideas abound, though Chicken nixes noodle soup! Can this wacky cast of characters get Rooster’s cock-a-doodle-doo back in time to wake Farmer?
COCK-A-DOO-AH-CHOO! is a rollicking barnyard read aloud with a rhyme scheme and rhythm reminiscent of Karma Wilson.
I am a former preschool teacher and K-12 Spanish teacher, and the author of two Christian early readers (Standard Publishing 2012) and a smattering of children’s poetry published online. I have a passion for engaging with public schools, and enjoy working with classrooms as a visiting author. I am a member of SCBWI, attend SCBWI conferences and workshops, and am seeking an agent for a long-term career. My current manuscripts range from quirky to lyrical, and I write with a love for playing with words and using language in interesting ways. I am a mother of two animal-loving boys, who help me fine tune my best ideas, which I’ve usually stolen from them.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
