From armadillos to penguins, animals all over the world use shells for some pretty wild SHELLUTIONS to predator problems.
With the factual humor and guessing game structure of BUTT OR FACE by Kari Lavelle, and the comprehensive examination of a creature feature like THE BEAK BOOK by Robin Page, SHELLUTIONS is a playful nonfiction STEM picture book survey of animals who live in shells. Scallops gallop, hermit crabs wait, armadillos pinch, diabolical ironclad beetles withstand the weight of cars, and more!
I grew up with mountains on one side and seashore on the other and my writing often pays homage to their continuing echoes in my life. I’m an active member of SCBWI, a 12×12 participant, and a recipient of an honorable mention in the #50preciouswords competition.

Excerpt:
Where would you go to find a shell?
The desert? A pond? Your backyard?
I have a sneaking suspicion you said beach.
Could there be animals with shells in other places? Why do so many creatures at the beach have shells? Why do animals need shells at all!?
Shells provide solutions (or should we say SHELLUTIONS) to problems animals face.
What inspired you to write this story & what do you have in common with it:
As a teacher by day and a writer by night, I love seeing my students’ surprise when they learn shells aren’t just at the beach! I grew up with mountains on one side and seashore on the other and have a passion for opening these worlds to children in creative ways. The world is amazing!
