GENRE: Lyrical
WORDS: 300
Query:
Dear agent, editor, lover of books,
My agent left the industry in May, due to health reasons, and I am looking for a new home.
I am a full-time illustrator and designer from North Germany. I moved to the boondocks 6 years ago, and now live in a trailer by a lake – with Boi, my Israeli cat.
Currently querying a younger picture book dummy, “We Are Many.” It just earned 2nd place in the SCBWI SoCal Fall conference.
Leaving the safety of his murmuration is a big step, but a little starling wants to know what lies beyond the flock. He finds unlikely new friends, all kinds of animal groups (a pandemonium! a mob! a tower!) and a new diverse herd of his own.
32 pages, 300 words, a lyrical picture book about chosen family, finding yourself, and discovering friends in unlikely places. ‘Perfectly Pegasus’ x ‘Lou’.
If you believe we might be a good fit, I am happy to send more samples, dummies, info…
Kind regards.
Excerpt:
We weave and dance and drift as one.
Lively and graceful. Nimble and swift.
We are one. We are many.
I am a small part of a big murmuration. We look and move and sound as one.
But sometimes I wonder.
Is there a world outside the swarm? With an empty sky and a different song? Where I could be me?
What inspired you to write this story & what do you have in common with it:
I have lived in different countries and places for most of my life – and finding new connections and friendships, people that get me, was always the biggest challenge. We Are Many explores this in a more lyrical, child-friendly way.
