Dear Judges, Agents, and Editors,
When Anna’s pencils dance across the pages of her sketchbook, her magical drawings come to life. Introverted Anna loves disappearing into her private sketchbook world until her classmates find out about her drawing talents. Her classmates’ requests for artwork grow and she loses the joy of drawing until she discovers a healthy way to share her art. ANNA’S MAGICAL SKETCHBOOK is a 462 word picture book that will appeal to readers who enjoy the whimsical art in WHEN I DRAW A PANDA by Amy June Bates (Paula Wiseman Books, 2020) and the inspirational art themes in THE ARTIST by Ed Vere (Doubleday Books, 2023).
I am an active member of SCBWI, 12 x 12, and I am also in a mentorship with Giuseppe Castellano through The Illustration Department. I have additional picture book dummies and manuscripts available upon request.
Thank you for participating in PBParty and considering my story! I look forward to hearing from you.
Excerpt:
Every recess, Anna disappeared into the magical world of her sketchbook.
Her pencils pirouetted on the page – one big yellow circle, ten curvy orange lines, two quick black dots, and a lion roared to life.
The magic was interrupted when a ball smacked her sketchbook, chased by a curious boy.
Peering over her shoulder, Samuel noticed a sassy giraffe sporting sneakers.
“Did you draw that?” he asked.
What inspired you to write this story & what do you have in common with it:
Since a very young age, I’ve always found it challenging to connect with others. It’s easier for me to hide myself in solo activities like art. The idea started with a magical sketchbook that brought drawings to life. As I wrote, I found myself in the book as Anna found that art is not a way to hide but a means of connection.
